CD or flash drive?

I use both.

In fact, I used both Yesterday.

I took the photos at the church Valentine Day banquet Saturday and used a flash drive to take them in and put some on the Sunday announcement slideshow and burned the entire batch to a DVD to give to the chair of the lady's group that sponsored the dinner.

Supposedly an UNDAMAGED CD or DVD will last about five years before any degradation of the aluminum coating of the disk, where the data is stored from underneath, begins.

I've never seen a good study of how long information on a flash drive will last. But I did find one in an old box of junk from when I worked in the state office last month, a 1 gig drive, and everything on it was still good. From the receipts in the small box of 'stuff' I had evidently packed it when the boss made me move my desk sometime in the fall of 2009. So that's ten years.

For long term storage I use CD-R or DVD-R media.

Despite what's been said above, I have CDs that are over 20 years old that still function without a problem.
